About the Image(s)

I was searching for something interesting to photograph while walking through a wooded area when it began snowing with blowing wind leaving me little time to explore. Quickly heading back to the house, I noticed an area with dried weeds in front of a small stand of birch trees and after finding a composition I liked, managed a few shots before leaving. Image processed in Lightroom/photoshop. Comments and recommendations for improvements are welcome.
Shooting in manual mode with handheld Full frame camera body with a 50mm lens, f/3.2, ISO 2500.

The vibrant orange birch tree in the foreground immediately draws my attention, creating a striking contrast against the black-and-white background. Looking at the original picture, I really like that you darkened the trees in the background-it enhances the depth and makes the foreground stand out even more. The image gives a sense of being incomplete or not perfect, but it's this very imperfection that makes it stand out. It adds character and makes the composition feel even more unique and compelling. Well done Jim!   Posted: 03/07/2025 10:32:22

Thank you for your kind words Linda. I thought I would step out of my comfort zone and try something different. Your description of what you sense when viewing the image is much appreciated.   Posted: 03/07/2025 13:56:19

Jim,
Fabulous shot! I love the juxtaposition of the warm orange weed in front of the chilly colorless background   Posted: 03/09/2025 14:12:35

Really nice job in post - erasing the twig next to the main subject and the birch trees nicely frame the survivor!   Posted: 03/09/2025 14:54:01

Jim, You're really asking for suggestions to improve your image? My answer, from my point of view there are none.
You've edited it beautifully, turning the original into a Japanese ink drawing that radiates calm and invites you to look at it again and again.
You have really succeeded in leaving your comfort zone and trying out something new. Carry on like this!   Posted: 03/14/2025 07:34:41

Jim, Survivor is an encouraging image. You can survive and thrive . Your post editing creates a beautiful image by filling out the orange weeds and darkening the trees in the background. I have no suggestions . Great statement.   Posted: 03/16/2025 19:41:16

Jim, I think you have done well with your editing. Removing the weeds to leave the one remaining, enhancing its color and darkening the background trees really highlights the foreground subject. I also think it is well framed between the background trees. I think its a good image and composition.   Posted: 03/18/2025 16:49:16
