Autumn's Last Dance by Ken Fowkes

March 2025 - Autumn's Last Dance

About the Image(s)

I like to collect fallen leaves that I think have interesting postures. I photograph them separately on a white background using a 100mm macro lens and focus stacking. I have so many that I decided to try combining them. This is a composite constructed in Photoshop using 12 leaf images and one background image of a sidewalk with stains of decayed leaves, which I took with my phone camera.

My goal is that the leaves appear to be floating as if a breeze was stirring them, that each leaf has a sense of character, and each seems connected to its neighbors in a way that leads the eye around the image.

Beautiful. Very poetic work. Excellent quality of work. It reminds me of the following lines from Rabindranath Tagore...

"Let life be beautiful like summer flowers and death like autumn leaves,"   Posted: 03/16/2025 19:13:32

There are so much to like in this image. Each leaf draws you in to look at the details and the background image was a great choice. The drop shadow gives the impression that the leaves are very delicate and floating above the surface.   Posted: 03/20/2025 13:38:00

Interesting idea. Nice composition. Great texture in the background - which looks like a sheet rather than a sidewalk. It works, but I'd probably have tried composing it in camera.   Posted: 03/22/2025 09:55:58
