December 2025 - Magical Pasargade

About the Image(s)

Shot on Z9 with my 24-200 mm lens, ISO 800, F8, shutter speed , shutter speed 1/4000, white balance auto natural light. Pasargade is the final resting place of Cyrus the great and the monument is where he is supposed to be interred. The monument is more than 2,000 years old and has over the years been plundered and damaged but still holds a very important historical meaning to the Iranians in general and Zoroastrians in particular(I being one). Again I was lucky that it did not rain but the skies were overcast. I waited till there were not too many people near the monument but I could not wait till it was completely devoid of humans. But on second thought the human element brings a perspective in terms of how large the structure is. The mountains in the background, I thought, offered a grand relief and the clouds added a bit to the otherwise grey ambience in which I shot the image. Not sure of the leading lines but I did not want to shoot the structure on its own as I would then have brought nothing to the image. Again, not sure how good and distinct the image is and if I could have done anything that would please a photoartist. I look forward to hearing comments and feedback from all the members.

Hoshedar, I don't think I fully understood what you wrote, but as a documentary image you captured it - also, I think waiting for just one person to inhabit the scene was masterful - the scene SCREAMED for the human element - nice job - in my VF I tried to punch up the image and highlight the woman taking the photo although I thought you captured the moment well - nonetheless, I think the VF version pops a bit more - would love your thuoghts   Posted: 12/10/2025 22:50:11

Hoshedar - I uploaded my VF yesterday but today it's gone and then as I was typing this it reappeared :-) Honest, that's what happened - anyway, I hope it sticks this time but just in case I'm uploading again ,   Posted: 12/12/2025 22:01:14

Thanks for sharing this historical location with us, that we will probably never get to visit. I like the straight on view that is very symmetrical, the the unique walkways leading to the monument. Having one person in the image, and in a good location really helps the image. Butch's VF does pop up the image, but it seems to have altered the shade of the walkways. Also, I don't think I like the mood being changed of the solemn location.   Posted: 12/14/2025 18:43:53

The human element adds dimension to the photo and gives us an idea about the size of the monument. The walkway leads to the monument and the symmetry ofthe image is very good.   Posted: 12/15/2025 04:13:07
