About the Image(s)
I noticed this tendril and leaf creeping through the gap in my garden fence and the photo just needed to be taken.
Taken with my infrared adapted Olympus OMD EM1 with Panasonic Lumix 14-45, 1/160, f13, iso 400.

Can we call that "Abstract Photography".In any case, you were at the right place at the right time!   Posted: 07/09/2025 11:09:20
Judith, I agree with Gaetan, you captured and interesting abstract. Meanwhile, a good abstract is simple, balanced, proportional & cohesive and should have clear structural design. Light should enhance the image, and it should have a sense of mystery. Using that 'formula' while your image meets or comes close in most areas, my eye bounces between the leaf against the black background and the bright column on the right causing me to "wonder" and "Wander" rather than my eye flowing thru the image. Nonetheless, VERY creative, nice job.   Posted: 07/09/2025 17:40:47
Great idea to see and capture this, and with IR to make the leaves white. If they were green it would not be nearly as good of an image. The leaves are very sharp and the veins stand out nicely. I do agree with Butch that the area on the right is too much and too bright. I did crop off some of it (maybe too close to the vine), and made it darker.   Posted: 07/10/2025 20:26:40
Great eye to see this opportunity. I love the detail in the leaves and as Tom said, the choice to use IR makes it interesting as opposed to green leaves. If I hadn't read the description, I'm not sure I would understand it's a gap of fencing. I considered saying to narrow the gap by removing the right half of the gap to make it less distracting. But this might also take away too much from the story.   Posted: 07/20/2025 15:36:19
