Oregon Logging Truck by Tom McCreary, APSA, MPSA

July 2025 - Oregon Logging Truck

About the Image(s)

We came across this old logging truck in a group of old trucks on display while on a trip down the Oregon Coast a few years ago. I like the bright orange against the green in the area and the large logs on the truck. I did need to do some cleanup of a truck close to it. The sky mostly grey with some cloud detail and color to it, and I thought about replacing it with a blue sky that I had previously taken. However, I decided that the sky fit the old truck so left the original sky. I used a Nikon camera and 18-200mm lens at 31mm, 1/250th second, F13 and ISO 400.

Tom - your technical skills are apparent and for a static subject you did a very nice job. In my VF I added canvas and used AI in PS to add some gravel under the truck and I thought there was a bit too much uninteresting sky, so I tried to balance the top and bottom of the frame - I then punched it up a bit with texture and clarity - would love your thoughts on my changes.   Posted: 07/09/2025 18:17:39

Thanks, I like what you did -- now the truck is not so close to the edge and cropping off some sky was good.   Posted: 07/09/2025 20:11:48

It must have been a long time since those logs were cut judging by the groths on them. If the trucks still in use, It tells a great story of the hard working for low pay driver. It is well composed and well done.   Posted: 07/14/2025 04:13:12

The lorry and the logs tell a story. The sky is dull and I think that the background is a bit too 'blank'.   Posted: 07/19/2025 04:41:42

I like the pop of the orange color of the truck and the character of the logs. Certainly tells a story. I agree with cropping the amount of sky/clouds. The cloud cover gives that nice diffuse lighting and allows the truck to be the main feature for me.   Posted: 07/20/2025 15:01:43
