About the Image(s)
This was taken a few years ago at the old Spanish mission Concepcion in San Antonio, TX. I liked the color of the pot and the flowers against the arch and walls that are grey with some brown stones. I think that the gated doorway and arch in the backgrounds adds to the image. I did reverse the image as I think that it improves the composition and now has the archway side on the right to be a stopping point to keep the eye in the image. I used an APS-C Nikon camera with a 18-200mm lens at 38mm, 1/160th second, f6.3 and ISO 200.

Tom - I really like this image, it has soft interesting appeal to it, and I commend you on how you separated the subject from its background, especially the other feature of interest, i.e., the wrought iron gate - I also thought you did an outstanding job using the natural frames in this image, i.e. how the subject was framed by the arch, but also how you thought to shoot thru the arch to the second arch and the gate - this is just an outstanding composition. I did punch it up a bit by added contrast and texture throughout, and darkening the foreground leading up to the subject and then putting the slightest vignette on the flowerpot. - Really nice!   Posted: 03/05/2025 15:34:19
Thanks, and thanks for the adjustments. It is a beautiful mission.   Posted: 03/05/2025 15:41:00
Tom, I do like this image. The framing is nice with the two arches and the depth of field to bring you to the inner gate. The blossoms give a nice pop of color. I agree with Butch to bump up the contrast and bring some detail into the foreground. Nice capture.   Posted: 03/19/2025 02:00:48
An interesting shot of arches within arches. Nice even lighting. What more is there to say? Great capture.   Posted: 03/20/2025 19:21:04
I like the arches the grate and the flower pot. The composition bothers me in that the pot needs to be repositioned. I doubt if you could physically do it for lots of reasons. But with a selection you could move it closer to the left arch leg so I would feel more invited to come through the arch and go left. The holes can be filled with content aware and tuber stamp.   Posted: 03/21/2025 03:12:27
So well spotted and captured Tom. To mentally visualise and then capture it so effectively is excellent work. I like the brickwork, the contrast of a living plant with bright colours, the texture of the floor and the wrought iron gate. I like what Butch has done. Not quite sure about moving the pot to the left and making other changes. Sorry Barbara, none of this bothered me too much.   Posted: 03/21/2025 03:39:25
