About the Image(s)

Taken with Canon R3, RF 24-70 L IS USM, 70mm 1/125 f/5.6 ISO 1250.

I had an opportunity to visit a Clydesdale Ranch with a small group of photographers. We followed the owner as she took some of their horses through their routine. It was great fun with opportunities for a variety of photos. I like this simple image capturing a part of their life together that also highlights their similarities and differences.

The simplicity and the shadows make for a great composition, very creative, so kudos. That said, did you give any thought to shooting the same scene but from a much lower perspective?   Posted: 01/12/2025 20:29:08

Hi Butch. I was two months out from knee replacement surgery so I doubt I could have gotten too low, haha. I did try some, but the background changes. Here's an example...   Posted: 01/12/2025 22:03:54

Terrific seeing! The contrast of the hairy hooves and the owners boots are well done. The back-lighting sets the composition off well! I definitely prefer the submitted image to the one you added for Butch.
Yikes Knee replacement! Keep moving! Lots of my friends have done it and those that walk more heal faster and better!   Posted: 01/15/2025 00:05:03

Good eye to have seen this. I like the contrast between the hairy hoofs and the cowboy boots. The back lighting was handled well. I think that cowboy boots are a bit too dark. I used the shadows/highlights adjustment to bring up the shadows just slightly and bring down the highlights just slightly.

The second image has a distracting background.   Posted: 01/18/2025 19:16:04
