About the Image(s)
Single shot. Photo frame hung from makeshift structure in the garage.
Really tricky to light, the golden frame was so bright it appeared to 'shine' into the darkness which was a pain. Doing similar in infra red I had the same problem - outer glow - any ideas how to solve appreciated (other than doing a composite).....
Anyway, effect here not too bad! Take at:f.3, 3.2 sec, aperture priority, iso 200.

Perhaps you could expose for the frame and then lift the shadows. Or use a different coloured frame. Why not ask the chair at your local camera club they are usually very knowledgeable!   Posted: 01/08/2025 21:15:36

Hi Judith
What a brilliant idea for an image and wonderfully carried out the bright frame does not over bother me as the flower on the left side is quite bright and the brightness contrasts so well with the muted tones of the vase and background.
For me it is something different and so works.   Posted: 01/11/2025 15:06:24

I have changed my mind on the above - I was looking at the image on a 7" inch screen in bad light - duh! I'm on my computer screen now, You might consider brightening but I think the composition is brilliant - great creative stil life   Posted: 01/13/2025 04:03:00

Thanks Butch. Appreciated. I will tinker with brightening a little. I do like what you did! :)   Posted: 01/13/2025 08:20:11

I like your image. I especially like your tying the photo to the current time with the flower o the frame. I would work on the frame and hydrangeas by selecting them in individual layers so I can work on them independently. You can darken the frame and brighten the hydrangeas.   Posted: 01/15/2025 00:14:15

Thanks Barbara. You aren't the only one to suggest that and I will have a look! Have a nice day and all that! :)   Posted: 01/21/2025 08:34:38

Very nicely done, and I like that the bottom of the vase is visible below the frame. Your depth of field is great, to have everything in focus. This must have been difficult with the frame in front of the flowers. The one flower in the lower left on the frame really adds a lot to the image. You are very creative to have set up and have taken this image.
The brightness of the frame is not too distracting, but I did play in Photoshop to darken the frame and made the flowers on the right side and the vase lighter.   Posted: 01/19/2025 18:07:19

Thanks Tom. I will definitely have to try a few options before submitting it anywhere. Just still not sure what though I do like your tweaks! Onwards! :)   Posted: 01/21/2025 08:33:29

Very enjoyable image, I like the composition very much. My eye is initially drawn to the left side of the frame with it's brightness. I would probably prefer to be drawn to the blossoms first by brightening the blossoms a bit more and muting the frame just a bit. Then my eye explores inside and outside the frame and appreciates all the other details of the vase and the blossom in the corner. I like all the detail in the blossoms with your depth of field.   Posted: 01/20/2025 17:12:19
