About the Image(s)
In May, I had the opportunity to watch the Navy Blue Angels aerobatics team practice from a boat on the Severn River. Nikon Z8 with Nikkor Z 100-400 lens at 210 mm. 1/1600 sec at f/5.6, ISO 64. Edited in Lightroom Classic.

Robert, great work in bringing out the shadows of the jets to show all the detail. How very close they are to each other! Very sharp yet with the trails there is a very good sense of the speed in which they are flying. Nice! We have gone to Fleet Week in San Francisco several times and your image is reminding me to go back and revisit those images!   Posted: 07/05/2026 20:26:05
Thank you. Enjoy looking back at your old images of fleet week. Maybe you'll be able to make it back there this October.   Posted: 07/09/2026 23:28:41
Robert, The Blue Angels can be a challenge to capture and certainly the formation you captured. Just as you experienced in your image the lighting plus the speed at which those planes move can make it difficult to get the detail and sharpness you did in your image. I like what you did with this image post processing. You opened up the shadows and brought out the details on the underside of the planes   Posted: 07/06/2026 01:41:35
Thanks Cindy.   Posted: 07/09/2026 23:29:45
Robert, what a fabulous opportunity to capture the speeding plane formations! Your original photo shows just how close the planes fly to each other. I like your composition of showing just one complete plane, while the others surround it tightly. The upward angle of the exhaust streams fits the feeling of flight too. Excellent job with post processing to lighten the backlit planes and bring out the detail. Well done, Robert!   Posted: 07/09/2026 19:23:42
Thank you very much for your kind comments.   Posted: 07/09/2026 23:30:09
Hi Robert,
You did a great job in post processing to bring back a sharp image of the Blue Angels. The diagonal line of the jets and their smoking trails add more impact to the airshow.
I'd prefer to leave room around the edges of the frame without cutting the jets off. Thanks for sharing your nice shot!   Posted: 07/12/2026 17:32:30
