Joan, what a lovely nature image! I believe this is an egret..please correct me if I am wrong. You have captured the eye of her and her care for her young. Very nice.   Posted: 04/12/2026 22:38:07
Joan, I especially like how well the fluffy feathered young show in your photo. How were you shooting that you achieved such an advantageous angle to capture the nest? The feathers on the mother egret are so graceful and snowy white. Nice shot, Joan.   Posted: 04/13/2026 01:58:29
Hi Jo-Ann,
Nice capture of the parent bird tending its fluffy chicks in the nest! The angle of your shot is great to show the details of the egret with its long, sharp, and yellowish-orange bill as well as its delicate, white feathers.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide more info about the location, the key times (is it in spring?), and whether you accomplish with a long lens from a distance. Thanks for sharing your nice shot!   Posted: 04/16/2026 11:03:15

Ruth, I thought I sent some info, but don't see it. Herte it is. This was taken from a grouping of at least three different nests in Alameda, CA which has a rookery. March is the best time to go. Another rookery in Newark, CA had another rookerwhich 10 years ago was filled with young parents. Now it is almost empty. I hope the Alameda Rookery has fared better.   Posted: 04/17/2026 03:53:42
