About the Image(s)

This image was taken at Hongshilin in China in August. Hongshilin, or the Red Stone Forest National Geopark, is a unique karst landform in Guzhang County, Hunan Province, China, featuring distinctive red, layered carbonate stone formations that change color with the weather. Kieu0Hanj, This looks like a very interesting area of China. The rocks have no unusual color at least to my poor eyesight.. I would love to see them looking redder but nothing you could do about that except to fake it. I really like the greenery between the rocks; it gives sense of delicacy to the image. My oe suggestion is to crop ou some the left side to bring the karst in the middle to the left. If you crop carefully, the image will look like the circle of rocks goes around the whole image, which gives a different perspective to it. Nice shot.   Posted: 12/01/2025 21:22:48

Well, my suggestion and I like it a bit better than the original.   Posted: 12/07/2025 00:48:18

Nice job. I like the leading line created by the rock in the foreground. I thought about toning down the green around the foreground rock to emphasize it. I tried and failed to get the right mask and the color corrected in Photoshop. Oh well!   Posted: 12/02/2025 02:04:39

Nice composition and interesting subject. I am fine with your composition. The two trees, one in the middle and one on the right take away from your overall composition. In Lightroom I eliminated both and took the liberty of toning down the greens in the foreground as suggested by Robert. What do you think?   Posted: 12/12/2025 21:14:47

Kieu-Hanh, What a fascinating place to visit! Your angle lets us see both the foreground and rocks further back. I do prefer your second crop that moves the front rock to the left, just enough off-center. I think Andres has a interesting idea to remove the two trees that are visually distracting. You couldn't do that to fit "travel" or "nature" definitions, since cloning isn't allowed. However for a pleasing scene, the removal of the two trees works well.   Posted: 12/13/2025 18:15:37

Kieu-Hanh, what a spectacular forest to visit! I like the perspective you chose with the rock in the foreground leading the eye into the scene. I tried to bring out more of the red in the rock, cropped and then removed just the one tree behind the main rock in the foreground. I enjoy seeing all your travel images!   Posted: 12/17/2025 22:31:52
