About the Image(s)

I snapped this photo while on a tour of the Doge’s Palace in Venice. When I looked at it, I realized that I had totally blown the shot and the canal was out of focus. I liked the composition and decided to play with the photo. I sharpened the photo in Topaz Photo and then brought it into Photoshop. I used ACR to adjust the lighting and then applied the Watercolor filter. I’’d love to hear some suggestions from the group as to what they would do with this photo or would it have been best to write it off to bad technique.

Robert, The concept is great - taking the stone work of the Bridge of Sighs as a frame. You are right that, unfortunately, the rest of the photo was not very sharp. You can't just go back there and do it again, probably. But. if you could, you might have made multiple images changing the focal point each tine and combining them eventually into a focus sucked image , sharp front to back. Otherwise the composition is great and th picture really beings you into Venice at some of the most iconic views there.   Posted: 12/01/2025 20:59:17

Robert, when I first saw the photo I knew it was Venice and I thought you had intentionally made the canal portion "artsy" to create a whimsical photo. Sort of Venice on a canvas. After reading your comments, I think you did a nice job resurrecting the photo. It is a great composition and using the watercolor filter did the job for me.   Posted: 12/04/2025 21:45:39

Robert, your photo communicates "Venice" even without the bridge area being completely sharp. The framing of the shot is creative and nicely includes the key elements of the bridge and island. You have improved the quality of the photo quite a lot through your editing, especially with sharpness. I don't have ideas to improve the image without the multiple photos like Joan suggests.   Posted: 12/13/2025 18:05:32

Robert, unique view of Venice. I like how you used the stone work to frame the view. And, you have handled the focus issue nicely using the watercolor filter. Very artsy depiction of Venice.   Posted: 12/17/2025 21:56:12
