I used my older Niklon camera, the Nikon S300,. It is an older image. This is the way it came out of the camera, no changes. s. However, I usually take three of each image. I set my bracketing to +1, 0, -1 and automatically take the three. . I pick the best exposure, which in this case was this one. It is handy also for making HDRs.. Mono Lake for the non-californians is located in the eastern Sierras in CA. Its tufts are unique and have risen and fallen for hundreds of years depending on the hight of the lake waters. At one point they were draining Mono lake for a water source and the tufts were getting higher and dryer. Then they decided not to do that and the lake filled up again.. We thought werewere going to lose then forever, but for whatever reason, they are still there, maybe looking a bit worse for wear and tear.

Joan, great shot. The sky is beautiful. I hope to get over to Mono Lake the next time I make it out to Yosemite.   Posted: 12/02/2025 02:10:11

Thank you, Robert. Wjen our camera club takes a weekend trip fro the fall color in the Sierras, we do drive through part of Yoseite on the way, so not so far from one another. Mono Lake has always been a good photographic site. If you go, I will keep my fingers crossed for good weather for you.

Joan, your image captures the unique texture of the tufts. They are indeed a fascinating natural feature of the Mono Lake area. The blue with a few clouds makes a beautiful background.   Posted: 12/13/2025 18:30:24

Joan, very nice image of the Mono Lake tufas. I was there in June when we went to photograph the wild horses. It was my first visit and it is amazing. Your image is well composed, light coming in from the left is very nice and clouds in the blue sky are beautiful. Very nice!   Posted: 12/17/2025 22:36:42
