About the Image(s)

This was taken this fall in Nevada City which is located about 90 minutes from Sacramento. The area is known for vibrant fall colors. This was in the yard of one of the old quaint homes. I used the Nikon Z9 with 28-400 lens at 105mm, f/8, 1/160, ISO 500. I used the new adaptive color in camera raw to edit and then adjusted with sliders. I cropped it to get rid of the distraction on the right. I look forward to your comments.

Mary An, Good cropping, in fact perfect in my opinion. The light on the pinecone strengthened really makes the image stand out from the original. Looking at the backsides of the yellow leaves, which are much lighter in color makes this even more interesting. I love the curves and s of the leaves. It also gives great color contrast. I think you foudd a lovely nature close-up and captured it very well.   Posted: 12/01/2025 21:31:26

Mary Ann, nice job with the cropping and bringing up the shadows around the warty pumpkin.   Posted: 12/02/2025 02:07:26

I agree with Robert and Joan. Your cropping was perfect. You eliminated all the distractions so the gourd can be the sole point of focus. Your adjustments to lighting were also spot on. Nice job.   Posted: 12/12/2025 20:59:33

Mary Ann, the fall colors are beautiful in your photo. The composition with the gourd off-center and leaves surrounding it works well. Your cropping eliminates the distraction of the pot. The lighting which makes the orange pop makes the image for me. You could consider using a vignette or blurring the background to make the gourd and leaves attract my eye even more.   Posted: 12/13/2025 18:21:08
