Taj Mahal Mausoleum Side View by Kieu-Hanh Vu

January 2025 - Taj Mahal Mausoleum Side View

About the Image(s)

This image was taken early in the morning last November when we stayed inline to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra, India. The mausoleum side view with the leading line interested me, especially when there were no visitors.

Good day, Kieu-Hanh Vu

Your work immediately reminded me of aesthetics 20th century photographer Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992)often implemented in his work using Kodachrome color film: here, an otherwise uncluttered scene is presented with high-interest in virtue of the blending/matching of color and soft atmospheric conditions.

A wonderful sense of "place" that you have defined by this intriguing perspective. Well done!

Kieu-Hanh. I wholeheartedly agree with Lance's commentary. I am particularly impressed with the absolutely perfect perspective. May I ask what camera/lens you used? Very well done, indeed. It would also work well in monochrome. One niggily thing: There is a sliver of another tower in the upper left of the frame that creates for me a very minor distraction - simple fix of using the "remove" tool or a teensy weensy tighter crop. I like your image very much!   Posted: 01/06/2025 15:38:28

Thanks for your comments,Michael!
- For camera used, I had a tendency to save all images that I like in one folder per trip, and processed them using Windows tools or apps. Sometimes, I could not find the Exif data in my final image either.
- I agree that the monochrome could be a good option. I visited Taj Mahal before sunrise and the light was not great either due to the pollution in Agra.
- The tower on the left is another minaret of the mausoleum. I might crop too tight on the left. Thanks for pointing it out.   Posted: 01/21/2025 15:17:33

Kieu-Hanh, I like how you've found a unique angle of the
Taj Mahal, not the traditional front view. The tile creates amazing lines that lead my eye towards the tower. The repeating arches and rings on the tower are wonderful architectural features that you've included. The very faint skyline and distant, single figure add to the scene too. It's a serene image, helped by its simplicity.   Posted: 01/11/2025 15:44:28

Thanks, Ruth, for your comments!
We visited Taj Mahal before sunrise, and the pollution in Agra made the faint scene. We were also advised not to bring tripod, or bag to avoid security checks that could delay the whole group. It's quite an experience to visit a well known place!   Posted: 01/21/2025 15:32:12

Kieu- Hah,
What a great idea to take something other than the tripod hole shot we see so often. This is fascinating and I love your wide angle approach to the wonderful tiles. My only suggestion would be to darken it a bit, maybe one str as the tower is very faint against the light blue sky. How lovely that you were able to go there.   Posted: 01/11/2025 20:17:55

Kieu-Hanh, What a different view of the Taj Mahal and it works so well. The perspective leads the eye right into the frame. My only suggestion is to take down the highlights a tad on the tower. Very nice image!   Posted: 01/14/2025 00:30:20

I also love the way you have presented a different view of the Taj Mahal instead of the traditional tourist view. You're setting the bar for travel photography.   Posted: 01/17/2025 23:29:59
