When I took it, I thought it would be "a picture doesn't always tell the story" shot as there were about 40 people in the room looking at this amazing huge painting from afar. When I got home I realized it was blurry and I had cut off the top left of the painting. So I took it as an opportunity to see how much I could do with software. I used Topaz AI to put the photo back in focus and remove the guard and the lights in the top right hand corner. I used Generative Expand in Photoshop to repair the cut-off frame at the top left hand corner. I then finished it in Lightroom by converting it to monochrome and sharpening the blacks a bit.
I shot the photo with a Canon EOS 90D, 1/125 sec at f/4.5 and 3200 ISO.

Andres, you did a good job of extending the canvas of your photo to include the whole painting. It looks much better in my opinion. I also appreciate how much sharper the image is. Including the visitor who is examining the painting adds interest to the photo. Since most of the photo is blacks and whites, it makes sense to convert it to b&w. It's a powerful painting.   Posted: 12/05/2024 22:34:55

Thanks Ruth. It was pretty coincidental that the visitor was also wearing black. Easy call to convert.   Posted: 12/05/2024 22:56:32

Hi Andres. Thank you for the disclosure of your use of AI to fix a few problems. Clearly the post processing helped the image. I like the tonal range and the camera angle but the composition bothers me. There are wonderful leading lines in your image but the amputated visitor stops my eye and I want to tell her to get out of the way. IMO, it would have been a cleaner composition and stronger story had you cloned out the visitor and left the guard.   Posted: 12/11/2024 04:54:34

Andre, wow! what our tools can do now! You really did manage to recover this image. It is a strong composition with the perspective from which you captured the scene. I do agree with Michael that taking out the viewer and leaving the guard in will make it stronger. Nice work!   Posted: 12/16/2024 21:40:29
