About the Image(s)
My husband and I travelled to Hawaii in October and were excited to see green sea turtles at one of the beaches. I took this photo of one with my Canon EOS R7 at f/9, 1/400, 150 mm. In Lightroom and PhotoShop I adjusted shadows and highlights, dehazed, and added slight saturation.

These are big turtles, and I a so glad you saw him or her I like the placement in the frame and that you sh owed the environment of the sea. We went many years ago to Costa Rica, where I was gratified to watch the laying of the eggs of one of those hug sea turtles, as well as a group of babies emerging from their shells and running down the beach to the water. I have no suggestions to improve you image. Glad you were alable to see them and photograph them.   Posted: 11/01/2024 19:35:10

Thank you for your comments, Joan. We have also seen green sea turtles in the Galapagos Islands where we snorkled as the sea turtles swam beneath us. An amazing experience!   Posted: 11/03/2024 18:14:31

Hi Ruth. You've captured a lovely portrait of this amazing creature. Glad to see you used a longer focal length so as not to get so close as to disturb the animal. Your image is nice and sharp and well exposed. I particularly like how you filled the foreground with your subject yet were able to include some beach and water in the background for just the right amount of context. Well done!   Posted: 11/02/2024 16:26:12

Michael, thanks for your helpful comments. As far as not getting too close to the turtles, the lifeguards on the beach have a solution. Red cones are placed around the turtles to provide a large safe zone where people are not allowed. There was also an endangered monk seal resting on the beach one day. I was pleased that the cones kept the monk seal from being disturbed.   Posted: 11/03/2024 18:12:01

Great photo. You captured a lot of detail of the turtle with a perfect blurred background. Well done is right.   Posted: 11/06/2024 21:39:52

Ruth, this is a great image of this beached sea turtle. What amazing creatures. You have captured the turtle in focus so all the detail of it are apparent and the soft ocean wave in the background sets it off very nicely. I really love sea turtles...when I was in Hawaii we went on a snorkel excursion to see them in the ocean. It was a fabulous experience.   Posted: 11/17/2024 20:06:28

Mary Ann, thanks for your comments. I agree that sea turtles are amazing creatures and even better when you swim with them in the ocean. They glide seemingly without effort through the water.   Posted: 11/25/2024 16:15:51

Hi Ruth,
Very sharp image of the sea turtle! I like the way you include the incoming wave in diagonal line and the wet sand of the beach. To me, the turtle looks tired (after laying eggs?).
It's a beautiful shot and I don't have any suggestion for improvement!   Posted: 11/29/2024 12:13:40
