About the Image(s)

I took this on a class field trip to vineyards in the foothills. I had a difficult time finding grapes that had not turned into raisins or were there at all. Harvesting had been done already on most of the acres. I took this with the Nikon Z9 and 28-400 lens, ISO 400, f/8, 1/125. I did some edits in camera raw and photoshop. I look forward to your comments.

Hi Mary Ann. You managed this difficult lighting situation very well. Lovely colors and I like how the foreground leaves are soft which forces my eye up to the cluster of grapes and adjacent leaf to appreciate their detail and structure and a pleasing composition. My only suggestion has to do with the smaller grape cluster to the right side of the frame. Because it is brighter than the main cluster, it pulls my eye away from the main subject. You might consider removing it.   Posted: 11/02/2024 17:00:06

Mary Ann, This must be wine and cider month. with a touch of pumpkin spice. Tje grapes you chose are perfectly ripened and purple grapes are so much more exciting than green grapes on the vine. You were a bit hamstrung by the lighting here. How much better if the light were direct instead of behind the grapes. It also caused a fair amount of bright scattered highlights that drag your eyes away from the bunch. I suggest that you crop in a bit more from the right side and darken the highlights that are distracting. You might also consider using either the dodge tool or a mask to lighten the grape bunch, so we can enjoy them even more.   Posted: 11/06/2024 22:14:55

Mary Ann, I love the rich colors that are in your photo. You've chosen a line on thirds for the cluster of grapes, which works well for your composition. The lighting is a challenge, even though the red and green leaves are brightened with the sunlight. You could consider using a radial mask in Lightroom to lighten and brighten the cluster of grapes, since it's backlit. Lovely fall image!   Posted: 11/07/2024 18:43:48

Nice photo with good focus. The absence of sharp lighting on the grapes balances well with the light through the leaves. The small group of grapes on the right is a bit distracting, but a very nice shot nevertheless.   Posted: 11/17/2024 20:37:57

Good job capturing the grapes on the vine, especially with the fall colors. You must have been there right before the harvest. Good job with the light and the shadows. It should be easy to remove the small buns of grapes on the right.   Posted: 11/21/2024 22:18:07

Hi Mary Ann,
Beautiful shot! The grapes look fresh and stand out from 3 fall leaves on 3 surrounding corners!   Posted: 11/29/2024 14:11:43
