Columbine by Murphy Hektner, APSA

July 2024 - Columbine

About the Image(s)

Nikon D700 with Nikon 200mm macro lens on tripod - ISO 2000 - 1/400 @ f/11 - Hazy early morning sun backlit - bit of a breeze so boosted the ISO to 2000 to attain a fast enough shutter speed to maintain good sharpness. Photo-flex soft gold reflector to light the front of the flowers to even out the sunlight. Post processed in Elements 2020. One image.

This columbine flower lives in a ceramic container on our deck. The medium green out of focus background is deciduous trees about 40 feet away. I liked the backlighting of the early morning sun.

One of my favorites, Columbine come in such a variety of color cultivars and this is a wonderful example of the flowers and foliage. Nicely done.   Posted: 07/05/2024 20:37:53

Hi Dan: Appreciated your positive comments. Columbines are also one of my favorites flowers, both our Pacific Northwest wild variety and also the wide variety of colorful hybrids available today. Cheers...   Posted: 07/12/2024 00:16:42

The violet colour of the flowers and the green background are on the opposite sides of the colour wheel and so, offer good contrast. The background is blurred. The main subject is sharp and well lit. Good shot.   Posted: 07/16/2024 18:13:47

Murphy, super image - I just wish the area over the main flower on the left was not quite so busy with those other buds, Ray   Posted: 07/18/2024 00:31:55

I like the composition, the sharpness, the lightening, the flower, and ... I agree with the comment of Ray.
I like the DD as it is interesting to read the comments of the members. The more eyes there are, the more you see.   Posted: 07/24/2024 19:00:31
