About the Image(s)

My wife had brought home some tulips to decorate the house. I really liked how they looked and, as my local camera club had a theme that month of Light Painting, I used these to try my hand at light painting for the first time.

I arranged them on a table against a black background in a darkened room, wanting to bring out the colors and contrast. My camera was on a tripod, Used my Canon R; RF 24-105 lens set at 81mm and I was about 2 meters from the flowers; aperture f/22; ISO 125. I used a narrow beam LED flashlight and kept moving it around with a 5 sec exposure (There were several tries at different exposure times).

For post processing I just worked on the exposure and contrast and increased the saturation a bit.

Hi Ed: The light paining produced a vibrant colorful picture of this bouquet of Tulips. There are no burnt out areas nor jet black shadows in the grouping, mostly evenly lit.

The 5 pink Tulips at the top provide a good point of interest, I can see very dark trees through the window in the background.

In your August entry you used a border to frame your picture, I thought it added that finishing touch.   Posted: 10/08/2026 02:47:42
