About the Image(s)

“New Sunflower” this was photographed at high noon using a Nikon SB5000 strobe with funnel diffuser to focus the light. I picked a very high aperture (I don’t recall, but likely f36), a very low ISO @100, and shot at 1/250th of a second. I did several of this type basically forcing the flash to beat out the ambient light. The effect is pretty dramatic.

Mo, interesting and interesting - good use of a flash to as you say beat out the ambient light and make the sunflower bud the center of attention. I don't get the purple streaks in the sky (please explain whether deliberate or coincidental) and a smidgen more space at the top would be useful. Nice! Ray   Posted: 05/08/2025 14:06:27

Ray, the purple is actually the sky. It was a bright blue day so impossible to completely block out ambient light. I did mask the subject in RAW to lighten a bit and stand out even more. Thanks for the comment.   Posted: 05/08/2025 17:16:20

Hi Mo: In the short time you have been part of our group 75 I have been amazed at your creativity with coming up with a very different approach and always creative in presentation.

This Sunflower image is different than any Sunflower image I have seen to date, I know you planned it to be this way.
