Penstemon with Indian Paintbrush by Murphy Hektner, APSA

May 2025 - Penstemon with Indian Paintbrush

About the Image(s)

Nikon D700 with Nikon 24-120 zoom @ 120mm - on tripod - ISO 800 - 1/50 @ f/16 - cloudy lighting - one image - post processed in Elements.

This specie of Penstemon is an alpine variety found on the east slope of the Cascade Mountains in dry rocky areas. It is a low growing plant that forms large mats of blue flowers covering the rocks. In this case I found a small grouping of bright orange Indian Paint Brush growing among the blue Penstemon flowers; I thought it made an interesting color combination.

Murphy - great colors, all in focus. My only suggestion is to remove the partial flowers at the edges as they tend to make eyes wander out of the frame. Maybe not all like the bunch in the upper left is not so much a problem. Ray   Posted: 05/08/2025 13:41:14

Hi Ray: Thanks for your input, it is always appreciated.

I left the blue flowers at the edges of the frame to give the viewer the illusion that the flower group could have been much larger in size that what is shown in the picture.   Posted: 05/08/2025 14:26:49
