Driving along a back country road in the eastern part of our state of Washington I came across this lovely scene of clumps of yellow flowers and this old rail fence. Thought it would make an interesting picture.

Hi Murphy. Was wondering if you were referring to Washington State? Wherever it is those clumps of flowers and the handmade fence are interesting. I find my eye not necessarily drawn to one thing but darting all over un sure what to take in first. I can see the thirds, horizontal and vertical, and the f16 captures it all crisply. The greens and yellow differentiate to the eye but i am losing the important fence and wonder if taking that a little darker might provide the necessary hook? Dont get me wrong, very pretty indeed.   Posted: 04/12/2025 22:51:04
Hi Alison: YES, Washington State is my home state. A photographer's paradise with a wide variety of subject matter to enjoy. Besides nature photography a very wide variety of various subject matter to hold a photographer's interest.
Thank you for your interesting thoughts on Balsam-root, very much appreciated.   Posted: 04/14/2025 01:09:25

Interesting composition. For me, I see the two plants in front first then a sweeping curve from the bottom to the left side. The fence then provides the break between those two views. Very peaceful looking. Nice job.   Posted: 04/14/2025 18:00:42
Murphy, one of the fascinating aspects of art/photography is how different people see the same image. In contrast to Alison. I keep seeing the fence which brings me into the image but then out as well without really ever looking at the far background. So, a suggestion is to crop off the upper third or so - enough that the fence become more prominant. Good image with great colors.   Posted: 04/15/2025 02:00:16
Hi Ray: You are correct in that photographers view art and composition differently, everyone has their own vision.
I like the far background viewpoint, as it gives a sense of space to this rural scene. If I wanted to place more emphasis on the rail fence, then cropping the top a third or so would accomplish this. We would then have two totally different renditions with each telling a different story. Cheers.   Posted: 04/17/2025 23:33:43

As commented, everybody has his own approach. The main one is the one of the photographer.
I like this rural scenes, they have a "soul". I like the colors (yellow and green), and the wood in the background.
Isolating more the fence would have given another picture, and such subject (fence) can call "B&Y", which has been nice, but another picture...   Posted: 04/19/2025 10:25:05
