About the Image(s)
I thought I would submit something a little different as I like to take photos of trees as well as flowers. This was from a trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina while visiting a town called Duck, and while walking along a boardwalk on the sound side of the island at sunset.
Photo taken using a Nikon D850 with 28-300mm lens at 28mm, 1/125 sec at f/16, -1.67 EV, iso 64, handheld. I ran the photo through Lightroom to crop and then through Photoshop to eliminate part of a pier in the background on the left. I added a small vignette.

Hi Ray: A good story telling nature picture of the harsh environment this tree lives in. The top part of the tree is missing along with a couple of broken off branches with just the stubs left on the trunk of the tree. Good composition with the tree biased to the right side of the frame, then technical quality is spot on.
The heavy vegetation at the bottom of the tree provides a good base for the picture, the trunk reflection provides another point of interest.
Good work on cloning out the pier in the left background, the small waves look very natural with no evidence of cloning.

Thanks Murphy - not possible without the generative fill program in PS. Ray   Posted: 02/03/2025 21:48:20
I agree with the analysis and comment of Murphy.
I will add that hiding the sun behind the tree is a really good idea. So we have the light and the colour of the sun without having an element too present.

Timing of this shot is nice with the sun glowing the tree. Looks a bit like the fantasy art one of my boys is keen on. Kind of like gaming scenery.
Looks like someone is sitting in the tree at the top? Nature tricks the eye sometimes and thats why photography is amazing since we see things in shots that we would not in situ!
The shutter speed and ISO mix are very interesting to me as a novice! I like it

Alison, I now see what you mean about someone sitting in the tree at the top - and congratulations as being imaginative is definitely a plus in photography as in what do you see that others miss. Ray   Posted: 02/15/2025 23:36:38
Tremendous shot, Ray. 90% of a good photo is being there when it happens. A few years back I was driving back at night from a photo club meeting with a friend. I remember passing a small pond that was packed full of high cattail weeds. There was a very small opening, an inlet close to the road. As we passed by I noticed that the full moon was reflecting back into the inlet. It was beautiful. A mile down the road my buddy says, did you see that moon back there? I said I did. Neither of us had our camera along. Missed opportunity that stuck in my head. Like the credit card company says, "don't leave home without it." But I ramble. Well done, sir. Only critique is that I would have lightened the center of the shot a little to pull out the sun and the reflected water.   Posted: 02/19/2025 15:58:54
