About the Image(s)

Taken in our gardens using a Nikon D810 with 28-300 mm lens at 135 mm, 1/30 sec at f/10, 0 EV, iso 64, hand-held.
Open in LR, masked the lilies, made the background black, moved it to Photoshop to add size and then straightened and cropped and added a white border.
I then used Nik 7 Silver Efex to convert to B&W, low key.

Hi Ray: The black and white conversion works very well on this Calla Lily image. Using the black background adds drama to the image and also serves to remove background distractions. You achieved good detail and texture on the two flowers shooting at 1/30 second, I would need to use a tripod at this slow shutter speed. One thought I have is perhaps you may want to lighten the lower stem on the largest flower, at least on my monitor it is barely visible.
The thin white border defines your composition very well and adds that final touch to this interesting well lit image.   Posted: 01/10/2025 12:41:39

Murphy, thanks for your comments - I struggled a little with deciding whether to leave that stem the way it is or brighten but I decided the former as I thought it made the image more mysterious (maybe not the correct word) but will brighten and see what I get. Ray   Posted: 01/11/2025 13:50:31

The huge difference between a processed and a non processed picture.
Just great in B&W. Composition, very smooth (soft), background, ... A well finished work. Well done.
