Siberian bugloss, a species of Brunnera by Raymond Tice

December 2024 - Siberian bugloss, a species of Brunnera

About the Image(s)

Image taken while visiting our local Duke Gardens, one of the premier public gardens in eastern US, where I was interested in taking photos of plant patterns.
I used my Iphone 14, 6.86 mm (78 mm for a 35 mm lens), f/1.8, 1/20 sec, iso 50, processed in LR to crop, remove some trash, and darken the background.

Hi Ray: Superb photography technique with the cell phone camera to achieve the very tack sharp detail on the highly detailed leaves. It was a great idea to "house clean" trash from the background and then darkening down the background really serves to make those interesting leaves really stand out. Excellent post processing !! Thanks Murphy - I am continually suprised by just how good the iphone can be in taking certain kinds of photos. Ray   Posted: 12/05/2024 21:07:10

Ray: Some of the success with really good photography from a cell phone is the photographer holding the cell phone.   Posted: 12/14/2024 04:43:34

Great Job.
No matter how it is done, the result (composition, light and background) is very beautiful.   Posted: 12/19/2024 10:06:30

Very nice image. My initial reaction was that this would look great printed big. I just bought th IPhone 16 pro max, out of necessity rather than desire. I cracked a lens on my 14 which rendered it useless. Lol. Did you shoot this in the ProRAW format?   Posted: 12/19/2024 13:05:06

Mo - yes, I used that format ending up with a DNG file. I have been using an iPhone 14 but will move to a 16 pro by the end of this year as I want the extra file size when taking macro/ultra wide photos (from 12MP to 48MP). I have been researching the add on lens that Moment has for the iPhone (https://www.shopmoment.com/mobile-lenses) and think some of them will be useful. So, sorry to hear you cracked a lens on your 14 but likely you are better off with the 16.   Posted: 12/20/2024 21:41:11

I wasn't aware that there was an add on lens. The link u posted didn't work. I'll search it out. Thanks.   Posted: 12/21/2024 00:05:13

Odd - this worked for me when I copied and pasted - https://www.shopmoment.com/mobile-lenses - they have 6 or so and you would need their special device for attaching; they also have a setup for filters that I use so I can get long exposures.
