About the Image(s)

This is a conversion from a go-pro image, taken last week. I originally had two go-pros rigged together but one of them died before I took a single picture.

Well done. The murky background has allowed you to put all the parallax where it counts.   Posted: 10/03/2026 01:10:32

I think the murk also helps enhance the 3d effect. I read somewhere that one method that painters use to create a sense of depth in something like a landscape is to make distant objects like a mountain look hazy and indistinct.   Posted: 10/03/2026 04:51:04

In 2d photography, blur is the preferred method for indicating depth.   Posted: 10/03/2026 14:11:41

I think the murkiness itself is a factor, too. Even at optical infinity, where everything is equally in focus, more distant objects lose contrast, and details are lost in the haze. It is a painter's trick but I think it is present in this photo too.   Posted: 10/05/2026 04:44:40

Beautiful. A GoPro conversion. What conversion software? One issue with underwater stereo is that you get floating debris in the water in the foreground in 1 eye and not the other. Like dust in the atmosphere when you shoot with flash. The conversion avoids this problem.   Posted: 10/03/2026 19:34:46

That is a good point, about particles in the water, that had not occurred to me. Maybe one camera is better. This is the first time I have ever tried using conversion software.   Posted: 10/05/2026 04:46:40
