About the Image(s)

This was taken with a stereo microscope. That is essentially two microscopes, side by side, so that each eye sees a separate image, and you see the object in 3d. They are used for inspecting and repairing things like circuit boards, and for dissection, and things like that. I put a camera on one eyepiece and took a picture, then moved the camera to the other eyepiece and took another, to make a stereo pair.

The picture looks like a flaming pit but it is actually the little hole in the top of an orange rind, where you pop the stem off. I sliced it off and put it under the microscope with the light underneath so it is backlit.

Either your images are switched, or this has a major window violation. Viewing it in pseudo is much more comfortable, with no violation. I love the juxtaposition of a soft subject with excellent detail.   Posted: 07/06/2026 22:58:15

As Steve said, both image pairs work with my stereoscope. One is concave and the other is convex. An inny and an outy. The lower image works as a better parallel pair as it doesn't have the window violation mentioned above. An interesting subject.   Posted: 07/07/2026 04:48:57
