About the Image(s)

This is an image of a path that circumvents a large pond used for making artificial snow at a local ski resort. With the strong foreground lighting I imagined a scene of an approaching storm. In post processing I made this happen by replacing the sky, darkening it, and increasing contrast. The details in the trees and grasses seemed to add too much texture, so I softened the image and applied a warming
filter. Some cropping was done, and noise reduced. Camera data: Nikon D7000 (590nm), f/9, 1/250,
35mm, ISO=400.

I really like the foreground with the leading path and the beautiful tones. You kept good details, yet the vegetation is close to white. I'm not sure that the sky fits. The light quality and direction don't match the foreground.   Posted: 11/01/2023 19:11:34

Arik, I agree, the sky doesn't fit. Thanks for the helpful comments   Posted: 11/22/2023 17:32:06

Hi Charles
I love the way you have captured the scene and did the post processing. Compositionally great! Wouldn't change a thing.   Posted: 11/03/2023 01:44:25

Hi Charles,

My first reaction to your image is that the brightness of the foliage and grasses conflict with the brooding sky. The composition pulls me in with the leading lines of the path. You can do variations of the foreground and see if you feel I'm making a fair point.   Posted: 11/04/2023 18:21:21

Gary, you're making a fair point. There's something dissonant between the sky and foreground. Working now on adjustments, thanks once again for the useful constructive comments   Posted: 11/22/2023 17:35:24

I like your composition Charles, it was immediately engaging. The subtle curve in the road contributes, it leads my eye around to the right rather than the trees becoming a wall. I love the shadows and slope of the hill.

Not being a fan of sky replacements, I think your original sky, if made very dark, would work fine here, the rest of the image being as strong as it is.   Posted: 11/05/2023 05:50:40

Charles

I like what you have going on here. My thought is to brush some white or exposure into the clouds

Hi Chuck, This is a very well seen image. The pathway is a perfect lead in to the lovely trees. I do not care for the sky replacement, the original works for me.   Posted: 11/07/2023 16:20:36

I agree with the others. Great composition, but the sky doesn't work.   Posted: 11/09/2023 00:23:13
