About the Image(s)

A favorite area of mine to photograph is the Faust Historic Village. They have brought in buildings about to be torn down and rebuilt them on the park grounds. It has a wonderful turn of the century feel. This scene is from that village..
Workflow: I rendered the image in BW using Silver Efex, added detail extractor and then with the LR masking tools to open the shadows on the front of the building. I removed objects in the background using Generative Fill
Camera: 720nm Canon 7D, Canon 24-70mm Canon f2.8 L lens at 24mm, 1/125
sec at f11, ISO 200, -1 EV

Interesting scene and picture. I like your use of the Generative Fill to clean up the scene. Nicely done. I may add some midtone contrast, probably by just adjusting the black point to restore some blacks.   Posted: 11/01/2023 19:26:31

Thanks for your comments

The histogram is the dark edge so a black point adjustment shifted it to the left just a hair (-7). Reducing exposure globally defeats my work to open up the shadows. Not sure what else affects the contrast at the moment

I was going for a minimal adjustment:

Thanks for your version

I played with a gradient map in PS which made the sky/foliage a touch lighter and the barn a touch darker.

Seems like it is going in your direction?

Hi Emil
Always a joy to see barn pictures, and this one is no exception! For my eye it seemed somewhat soft. So I took the liberty of playing with it in PS. The re-worked version is attached to see what you think!   Posted: 11/03/2023 01:25:52

I did a side by side comparison and your re-worked image gets the nod for sharpness. Nice work and I will go back and see where I missed the boat during my processing

Hi Emil,
The iterations of your image are good learning for us all. I like what you are ending up with very much. This is a natural for IR.   Posted: 11/04/2023 18:16:09

Emil, I've come to appreciate your softer images as just your style, so it works fine for me as is. If you agree with the others about more contrast, that's fine too. It's very nicely composed and laid out.   Posted: 11/05/2023 07:02:47

Hi Emil, Another great barn processed in your subtle way. What a fantastic sky! Even though I'm happy with your presentation, your reworked image does present more pop!   Posted: 11/07/2023 16:33:34
