About the Image(s)

This month I’m sharing another image that is made of two images. One is the original scene and the other is a texture of a wall that I shot earlier. My settings for the original image were 70mm (105mm eqiv.), 1/60 sec. F13, ISO 200, -0.33 EV. After blending the original scene and the texture, using the Multiply blending mode and using a layer mask to control the opacity of the texture, I flattened the image (actually created a Stamp Layer that is a flat layer of all the visible layers) and colored it using Photoshop’s Style Neural filter.

Taken with a converted Nikon D300 with a 720nm filter. The wall texture picture was taken with my cellphone. I use my phone to shoot skies and textures whenever I see interesting ones.

Creative and filled with art, Arik. I like it a lot. Including the human element was a must for this to work as strongly as it has. Well done!   Posted: 06/01/2023 20:08:14

Echo Gary's comments, Arik. Brilliantly executed by way of combining the textured layer with the original. And yes, the inclusion of the human element made the image. High marks for creativity. Food for thought!!   Posted: 06/02/2023 05:05:50

Hi Arik, You took a "nice" picture of this scene and have managed to converted it into art with your processing. I am also drawn to brand arch in the perfect position above the people.   Posted: 06/03/2023 15:59:45

My personal approach to photography, Arik, is I want to see an image work on the simplest level, I tend not to like the filter effect to be the first thing I notice in an image... (but I realize I'm a contrarian and artistic processing is often the greater part of the image for many). So here, I'm drawn more to the original, and the minimalist feel of the two small people under the expanse of the trees, though I would crop it up from the bottom just a bit to make that effect stronger.   Posted: 06/04/2023 22:56:59

Arik,

I have not seen an IR image processed the way you did. I like it. IR should be art to the viewer and this image is just that

I like this a lot, Arik, and would love to see a printed version on heavily textured paper or canvas. It would be very striking. No suggestions.   Posted: 06/08/2023 19:52:51

Further to my comments, I also endorse Henry's suggestion on getting it printed on a textured paper or canvas.   Posted: 06/12/2023 02:57:13

Arik, I appreciate how you see IR photography as a form of visual art. It relaxes boundries and releases creativity. I like the way you used the second image to create texture and especailly your addition of color (far better use of it than I did this month). And your basics are excellent, the composition, the inclusion of the seated couple, and the orange-yellow highlights you added. It's a lovely image.   Posted: 06/12/2023 18:21:01
