About the Image(s)
Rauðamelskirkja is a small, very out of the way church in Iceland's Snaefellsnes Peninsula, northwest of Reykjavik. The site has had a church on it since the 17th century, but this building dates back to 1886.
This is actually a panorama consisting of 7 frames, merged in Lightroom Classic. I also did the black and white conversion and basic exposure adjustments in LrC, then took it into Photoshop for a bit of cleanup and evening out the sky.
Sony A7R IV full spectrum conversion with a 720 nm clip-in filter. Sony 24-70 f/2.8 GM2 lens. Shot handheld. ISO 100, 26mm, f/8, 1/250 second.

Hi Henry. Nice handling of this panorama. The tonal range is beautiful with good retention of the details. I haven't done any panoramas with my cameras, only with the drones. The drones do it automatically and create the final image for me. Your image looks perfect. Still, beautifully done as presented.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:22:04
Thanks, Arik.   Posted: 10/01/2026 15:30:55
Henry, the merge is seamless. Well done. For me, this image has fantasy qualities. The strong contrast with the sky renders the church as a kind of perfect prop on a movie set. The flagpole balances the composition, but did you consider removing it? I like it as is, just curious.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:43:33
Thanks, Charles. I did consider removing the flagpole, but they are such an intrinsic part of these little Icelandic churches, I decided to keep it in.   Posted: 10/01/2026 15:32:32
Henry,
Wonderful pano. I like your camera position. The dark sky keeps your eye on the church and adjacent grounds. You need the flagpole for balance so good decision retaining it.
BTW: I will never know how to pronounce its name, spelling it is a challenge in itself.

Well done Henry. I see no stitching issues and handheld at that! I like the leading line the pathway (and the 1/2 open gate) creates to the church.   Posted: 10/02/2026 18:43:03
Hi Henry. Well you found a church that we missed on our visit to Iceland! They were all so interesting. Very innovative to make panoramic presentation. It really gives a wonderful sense of the space. All the elements work.   Posted: 10/04/2026 17:55:57
