About the Image(s)

I wanted to join in on all the curved roads we have seen recently. This was taken on a plantation in Sri Lanka. This area is wonderfully scenic. Unfortunately there were not many opportunities to stop as we were on a tour. The tree lined view with a path running through was a must for Infra red.
I removed many of the small distractions as well as the close up leaves on the top left. Life Pixel action to channel mix and converted in Photoshop. There was not much contrast so I used Select Toning to find back and white points as well as manipulating light and dark areas. Topaz AI to sharpen and added a slight vignette.

Hi Melanie. I submitted a picture that doesn't have the common IR elements, and yours captured a perfect scene for IR. The composition with the winding pavement, good contrast and tones, and nice framing made a beautiful IR picture. I have no suggestions for changes or improvements. Well done.   Posted: 10/01/2026 14:20:57

Melanie, it is so frustrating when a tour leader rushes everyone, particularly when your mind's eye says "stop". But even being rushed you captured a lovely IR scene. Of course, being someone who can't resist including paths in a composition, I like your use of one here. The highlights are lovely, and the shine on the path enhances interest.   Posted: 10/01/2026 15:09:22

We have not been on many tours. This one was from a ship and it took 2 hours to get to the plantation with all the wonderful scenery passing by. Thanks for the kind comments.   Posted: 10/04/2026 18:23:40

Melanie,

I am glad you joined the Winding Road club....

Your image is iconic IR. The dark curved pathway framed by the white foliage is just perfect. A unique feature in your image is the trees on the right of the pathway that were either planted after it was built or spared during construction. They are so tightly spaced.

Well done

Melanie, as Arik mentioned, this scene is perfect for IR. At least you didn't have tourists in the original image! The black asphalt contrasts well with the light foliage.   Posted: 10/02/2026 18:15:52
