About the Image(s)

In June I took an Infrared workshop and we visited the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, VA. This is a picture of the conservatory using my 720nm filter. I processed the image in Lightroom and DXO Color Efex pro. I really didn’t do too much to the image other than crop it and adjusted the color of the sky a little to make it a little bluer and less cyan.

The specifications: Filter: 720nm ISO 800 F/8 1/600 (handheld)

Jeff, a very balanced composition. I like the use of the foreground bushes and tree to serve as a frame. Colors are subtle and pleasing. Very nice work.   Posted: 08/01/2026 15:54:03

Jeff,

Well seen

I like the hard geometrical lines of the observatory framed by the "soft" foliage. You are placed yourself in a sweet spot for image capture as well

I agree with the comments above mine. The composition works well to create an interesting picture of the scene. Your cropping is right on, and the post work is good too. Nicely done.   Posted: 08/01/2026 17:56:26

The branch framing on top is classic, Jeff. And the pink tones contribute to a feeling of blossom in the trees.   Posted: 08/02/2026 15:37:43

You are selling me on color IR! The branch across the top serves as a bookend. I live about 2 hours south of Richmond. What group was the workshop with?   Posted: 08/03/2026 20:35:24

The workshop is with NewLifePhoto and the lead is Jamie Davidson. I've taken two workshops with Jamie and she is very nice and a wonderful photographer. The first workshop was 'Finding your Muse in Georgia' and the second was the IR workshop.

The location is wonderful and has a wide variety of subject areas...Japanese Garden, all types of flower beds and water with water lilies, a large conservatory rooms of different climate and even a butterfly room.   Posted: 08/17/2026 02:46:35

Well done Jeff. The graphic structure set into the soft surrounding foliage is very well seen. Colors are subtle and balanced. My only quibble is that I think it needs some straightening. Leaning slightly to the left.   Posted: 08/04/2026 15:57:21

I can't add anything to what the others have said, Jeff. Absolutely terrific. Glad to see some color IR!   Posted: 08/04/2026 17:01:28
