About the Image(s)

A minimalist approach of busy clouds and a tree line
Workflow: I rendered the image in BW using NIK Silver Efex, a touch of Detail Extractor and then the masking tools in LR to dodge and burn the image. I added a grey texture for some spice.
Camera: 720nm Canon 7D, Canon 24-105 f4 lens at 41mm, 1/125 sec at f22, ISO 160, -.67EV

Hi Emil. The added texture makes the picture more expressive and interesting. The original shows the tree trunks a little better, but still a unique picture that was handled creatively.   Posted: 07/01/2026 16:37:39

Arik,

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree with you that the tree base needs to be opened up a bit more.

Emil,
I love the simplicity of this scene. The clouds seemingly rising out of the tree work well. I do find your processing of the clouds to be too strong for my taste. Detail Extractor can be a terrific tool, but it can make for very busy clouds as shown here.   Posted: 07/02/2026 17:01:14

Looking at the original gives me great appreciation for what you've done to the sky here Emil, very nice. But as this is so much about the sky, I think you could crop out some of the trees on the bottom (or, alternatively, do as Arik suggests). Where the sky intersects the tree tops is beautiful.   Posted: 07/03/2026 15:16:01

Very nice use of the texture to increase the interest in the sky. Although the image is supposed to be about the clouds, I start to lose interest above the angled light line of clouds about halfway up the sky. I think you could crop down a little from the top and increase the interest lighter, puffier clouds.   Posted: 07/08/2026 02:20:28
