About the Image(s)
Like the blooming of Daffodils, sailboats announce the end of winter and the beginning of spring. With this image I hoped to capture that feeling. By enhancing the sparkles on the water and brightening the sails, I intended to remind the viewer of the simple joy sunlight and warm breezes can give you after being cloistered inside for four months.
To render the final image, I cropped it intentionally placing the sailboats in the middle, then using Silver Efex Pro, converted to black & white with emphasis on whites
and highlights.
Camera data: Nikon D7000 (590nm), f/11, 1/1250, 750mm, ISO=400.

Charles,
You positioned the boats just right. <g>
The contrast between the white sails and the darker background elements was well handled. Your crop was well chosen with enough water to give us a sense of place but not so much as to overwhelm the final image. The trees and other foliage are also nicely processed.   Posted: 04/01/2026 18:03:51

Very nice capture, cropping, and post work. I like the way the sails connect the sparkles in the water with a similar look in the tree tops. In your composition, the sails point to the trees in the range that you included in the frame.   Posted: 04/01/2026 19:27:31
Charles,
Thanks for your gift of Spring to us. It is slowly coming to us here in St Louis.
I find it interesting that sailboating on a lake ultimately brings the craft clustered together as in your rendering this month. I find it true at the lake by my house

Well done

Nice, Charles. I too am drawn to the sails, and the sparkles in the water. Reminiscent of Gary, perhaps, I'd like to see some more true black in the image, whether that's overall contrast, or even on the sails themselves, or perhaps a vignette, but it feels to be missing true black.   Posted: 04/10/2026 01:18:14
I am really drawn to the sails in this wonderful image. You were fortunate for the separation between the sails that makes the image.   Posted: 04/13/2026 17:33:21
Hi Chuck, This certainly has a summer like feel. I am intrigued by the pattern made by the sails. I really like the setting. I know that this was your intention, but I do find the the sparking water it a little too intense, making it look unreal. I still want to be there I can almost feel the breeze!   Posted: 04/14/2026 15:56:14
