About the Image(s)

In Porto, Portugal, a tradition exists where university student groups, known as Tunas, perform music in the streets and receive money or other gifts in return. These Tunas, dressed in traditional dark suits and capes, play instruments like guitars, mandolins, and tambourines, and sing traditional songs. After Charle’s IR portrait last month, I decided to include some people in my IR images. This image was taken in July 2025.
This was taken on a SonyA7CR, 720 converted camera using the Sony 20mm G prime lens. 1/100 F8 ISO 100. I was surprised how the performers wearing their black capes stood out from the tourists behind them giving an ethereal quality to the image. It’s post-processed in LR classic: adaptive BW, adding drama to the clouds with masking, slightly increased the exposure for the performers and decreasing exposure for the tourists. Distractions were removed in PS. I realize this is a very busy image, is it too busy?

Hi Steve. Interesting picture that tells a story. Nicely handled in capture and post work. I don't mind a busy scene that allows me to explore and enjoy. All the elements belong there and contribute to the overall story. The clouds add drama.   Posted: 08/01/2025 00:46:31
