About the Image(s)
One of our stops on our April Monument Valley trip was Forrest Gump Point, so-called as a scene from the movie was shot from here. Everyone stops here so parking and getting clear access to the view is challenging. Traffic is also a concern when shooting in the middle of the road. I took this with both my conventional and IR cameras, but all in all, I
think this was my favorite of the bunch. I processed this in Lightroom Classic and Photoshop, removing some people and other distractions. I used B&W04 in LrC for the conversion.
Sony A7R IV, Tamron 28-200 lens. ISO 100, 69mm, f/16. 1/80 second. Shot handheld.

A spot I know well, Henry!
I find in this area, unless you're able to capture golden hour light, infrared is a better option, especially when you have nice clouds like you did this day. Good job on cloning out the parked cars.   Posted: 07/02/2025 22:44:26

Thanks, Jack. I tend to agree, though we did some pretty nice close-up work when working during midday.   Posted: 07/02/2025 23:58:15
Hi Henry. This is a classic picture that you handled well in capture and post. I have a similar one on film (slide). The IR worked nicely with the beautiful clouds.   Posted: 07/03/2025 21:33:06

Henry
A classic shot even if Forrest Gump is absent.
Well done

Thanks, Emil. I went back and watched a YouTube clip of that scene and was struck by both the similarities and differences 30 years can make. I was also shocked it has been that long since the movie came out.   Posted: 07/07/2025 16:33:59
Well done Henry...I've been to Monument Valley but never took the time to look up the spot Forrest liked! I'd like the crop to be a bit more 'pano'...but that's a small critique.   Posted: 07/07/2025 15:18:40
Thanks Gary. We were there as part of a photo workshop and the leaders thought we should all stop for a few minutes just to say we were there. It was worth the time I think.
I think you're right about the pano crop. I find I reach for 16x9 more and more these days.   Posted: 07/07/2025 16:35:55

Hi Henry, An iconic image. We also stopped for this picture (before my IR days. Have to go again). Post processing is lovely. I do like the grungy look. I agree that Pano is the way to go.   Posted: 07/09/2025 19:35:37

Henry, thank you for playing god removing all the living things in this image. It is so much more profound in its starkness. Second to that master stroke, is the work you did with the sky. Again, you've captured a familiar scene, but freshly rendered it.   Posted: 07/10/2025 14:12:22

I have seen this location photographed many times, but this IR shot is my favorite! You got lucky with the clouds!   Posted: 07/25/2025 12:42:10
