Mail Pouch by Arik Gorban

March 2025 - Mail Pouch

About the Image(s)

This is my second submission of this place. Post processing was mainly some tonal adjustments in ACR and later, during the B&W conversion, in Nik Silver Efex Pro. Noise reduction and sharpening were done in Topaz DeNoise AI.

Taken with the Nikon D300, set to ISO 200, 1/100 sec, f11, EV +0.33.

Arik

This would be a classic shot if it only had the Mail Pouch barn; it would be a classic shot if it were just the old cars. Combined it is just off the charts in my humble opinion.

Arik, this is certainly an IR image that invites time travel. What a surreal juxtaposition of a chewing tobacco ad with the random parking of 1930s autos. So well rendered and processed. A minor thing: maybe crop the bottom a little more?   Posted: 03/02/2025 11:57:13

Hi Arik,

If this was taken on your trip to IN that I missed, I am very envious! Where exactly was this absolutely stunning scene located? It's the epitome of IR in my view. I did, however, add a dash of contrast, lighted the sides of the two cars on the r. and cropped out foreground that seemed excessive to my eye. See what you think.   Posted: 03/07/2025 07:15:13

Hi Arik...didn't hear from you this month on my image. It's ok if you are too busy or travelling.   Posted: 03/26/2025 20:56:11

Very nicely laid out, so engaging, I can only echo the others' comments.
Personally I prefer a darker sky, as in Ansel Adams black, but of course that's your stylistic choice. As one other commenter mentioned, there's a lot of foreground. But overall I find it excellent.   Posted: 03/08/2025 18:20:43

Hi Arik, I did go back and look at your previous presentation of this wonderful place. This one tells a complete story which I really appreciate. Every element is worthy in its own right. This is nit picking, but I would lighten the tree line on the right to match the left. I did think about cropping some off the bottom but that would put the horizon line in the center and there are so many cars that your crop gives them space.   Posted: 03/10/2025 09:28:01

Arik,
I love this scene and what you've done with it. I do agree with Gary about the crop, though I think I prefer your processing.   Posted: 03/11/2025 13:35:39
