About the Image(s)

Blame being snowed in, but I fiddled again with unnatural colors this month. This photograph was taken in a park in Rochester last Spring. I liked the simplicity of a single bird in a tree ready to sprout leaves.
To rendered the final image, I cropped it and forced a change in the vertical/horizontal ratio, then using the paint brush, touched up the bird silhouette and cleaned up spots and distracting clutter. While I tried a black-white conversion, the image seemed more fetching in a 3-color palette. Finally, I reduced noise with Topaz then did some touching up with the blur tool.
Camera data: Nikon D7000 (590nm), f/14, 1/160/ 140mm, ISO=250.

Charles,

I like it and it is a great time to of year to experiment. It does not have the IR look our group posts but I think the owner has dibs on the rendering style.

Although the bird adds a wildlife element, it is pretty small in the scheme of things.

Unique presentation. While the bird is very small, it's a great anchor point for the viewer. I noticed it right away. I often keep colors in my IR images. Some like them, but some don't. This one works for me.   Posted: 03/05/2025 14:31:34

Hi Charles,
Keep posting these altered versions...I may grow to like them. I just can't get into colored IR and have one camera completely converted for color IR that I seldom use! The bird, small as it is, anchors the tree...and is a nice find.   Posted: 03/07/2025 08:40:28

Hi Charles...didn't hear from you this month re: my image. No problem if you are busy or travelling to some IR-friendly location!   Posted: 03/26/2025 20:57:34

I also noticed the bird right away, Charles. And while I'm also more of a fan of black and white IR, I do appreciate this one more as I ponder it. The pink tones, from the sky and the foreground reeds, add mood, somber and reflective, very nice.   Posted: 03/09/2025 14:04:40

Hi Chuck, This looks like you had a lot of fun with it. I think you produced something unusual from the mundane. The colors work for me. I do like the grass stems in your original and would have liked to see them included. Keep pushing the envelope.
PS I'm so pleased not to be living in the awful cold north has had this winter!   Posted: 03/10/2025 09:39:55

I agree with the others. Terrific processing makes this scene special!   Posted: 03/11/2025 13:43:31
