About the Image(s)
The boats docked in the Harbor at Newport. An image I had
failed to process until recently.
Workflow: After rendering the image in BW using NIK Silver Efex, I followed my standard procedure of using the LR masking tools to dodge and burn the image particularly the foreground.
Camera: 590nm Canon 5D Mk II, 24-105mm Canon f4 lens at 80mm, 1/200 sec at f8, ISO 200, 1 EV

There are interesting graphical qualities to this, Emil. The boats in a row, the triangles of the mast frames, and the almost perpendicular lines formed by the clouds, it all plays off each other. Just as in Henry's image, the sky is the most interesting part, and the clouds lend mood to the image.   Posted: 01/01/2025 23:36:54

One of my favorite places, Emil. The boats are nicely lined up and that sky is wonderful. The processing is spot-on.   Posted: 01/03/2025 00:22:09

Hi Emil,
I've been here, and you've captured a solid rendering of the scene with very good processing in my view.   Posted: 01/03/2025 00:47:01

Emil, please forgive me, but I find the original IR colorized image to be more attractive than the B&W version, although both are quite appealing.   Posted: 01/05/2025 00:38:38

This is a nice scene to work with. I like the composition and overall handling. I agree with Charles that the B&W version loses something. Maybe try a color version with channel swapping.

Hi Emil, Before I read other critiques, I kept going back to your original and enjoyed the feel of it. So I am in agreement that this is better with some color. It's hard to find a good angle with harbored boats, and I think you did really well here. The sky is ideal too.   Posted: 01/06/2025 15:40:45
