November 2024 - Autumn Walk in Princeton University
Original
About the Image(s)
Last month’s post was from an earlier visit to Princeton university. This time I wanted to focus less on the architecture and more on people and objects. Here, I straightened the image and made tonal adjustments in ACR, using the masking tools. Additional adjustments were made in Nik Silver Efex Pro during the B&W conversion. Noise reduction and sharpening were done in Topaz DeNoise AI.
The real magic was done with the updated Remove Tool in Photoshop. All the people and one dog in the background were removed automatically, using the Find Distractions / People with a single operation.
Taken with the Nikon D300, set to ISO 200, 1/125 sec, f9, EV +0.33.

Great job processing this Arik, the contrast is rich and it's a beautiful scene. For me personally, the person looking at phone, rather than engage me, kind of disengages me from the image, presumably the same effect it has in real life, but I understand it's a fact of life these days.   Posted: 11/03/2024 02:52:23

Thanks. To me, street photography is about real life story, although I removed some other distractions.   Posted: 11/10/2024 19:48:20

Arik,
It's a nicely composed image and processed beautifully. I haven't played with the Find Distractions/People feature yet, but I will certainly do so going forward.
It's amazing how IR, having completely bleached out clothing, leaves people looking vaguely naked. It certainly is startling at times.   Posted: 11/04/2024 20:45:03

The story you created is the world we live where the only engagement is with a cell phone sadly. This person may not have realized she was immortalized on your camera.
I like the scene rendering, crisp, nice tone etc.
I agree that the PS Remove tool is real black magic. I have used on wires but on people
Well done

Thanks. I tried it on many pictures, removing people and wires. It's best to create a new clear layer and check the Sample all layers option before you start it. This way, the changes are all on the new layer. You can use a mask to hide edits that you don't like.   Posted: 11/10/2024 19:52:31

Arik, You certainly magicked this scene. You took ordinary and made it beautiful. I had a thought - Could AI remove the shadows from her clothing? Different not better.   Posted: 11/10/2024 18:09:16

Thanks. I tried a few AI prompts and got a new girl or no girl.   Posted: 11/10/2024 19:47:20

Arik, I like what you did removing the people walking their dog and other visual clutter. While the cellphone woman is intriguing, with the others, I wonder if the image would be better without her.   Posted: 11/21/2024 22:13:59
