About the Image(s)

I hope you are enjoying summer there. Here, winter is much cooler and more humid this year.

For this month's image, I chose this one that I shot during my recent trip to Spain.

I took it at the edge of the beach cliff in my village. I shot handheld with the zoom lens and edited in Photoshop. I cropped it into a square format, enhanced the colour, and to finalise, I applied a layer of texture to mute the background and give it an artistic touch.

Exif data
Shutter: 1/1600sec
Aperture: f 8
ISO 1000
Shot wit a Sony camera and a 100-400 mm zoom lens at 400 mm

Maria, what a great capture! The flower and bee are all in sharp focus, and I like the subtle texture that you added. The original image was a little dark, and you were correct to brighten it. But, I think you brightened it a little too much. Also, I might suggest that for a vertical subject such as this flower, a rectangular (portrait) crop would provide a better composition.   Posted: 07/03/2024 20:49:23

Hi David, thanks for your nice comment and suggestion. I will edit again and play with a vertical crop and a darkened version of the image.   Posted: 07/03/2024 23:31:26

Hi Maria,
You captured sharp details on the flower and bee. The colors are very pleasing to my eye. Nicely composed. I think your square crop with the extra negative space gives the image an airy, peaceful mood. I like it.   Posted: 07/05/2024 13:26:41

Nice focus on the flower and bee. Nice background. Would like to see the flower off center with a closer crop so the flower occupies more of the space in the image. To my eye I would like to see the image toned down to give the flower more saturation. I might try a flip and a closer crop.   Posted: 07/19/2024 01:46:12

Hi Dick, I really appreciate your comment and suggestion. I can now see how the image can change with just a few adjustments.   Posted: 07/22/2024 08:23:05

Hi Maria
I like your original photo and find it interesting in the different ways it can look after processing. I'm impressed that you were able to get both a sharp bee and flower. It's a beautiful photo no matter how it is processed.

Hi Esther, thank you for your lovely comment. Sometimes I am lucky to have the flower and the insect on the same plane with me. That can increase the opportunities of getting them in perfect sharp focus   Posted: 07/29/2024 00:40:43
