About the Image(s)

I took this image of a rue-anemone flower at a local garden near my home. I was trying to get a dreamy effect by shooting with a Lensbaby Soft Focus lens on a Canon full-frame camera. I shot the flower by bracketing several apertures from its widest (f/2.5 to a mid-aperture setting (f/5.6). I then aligned the layers in Photoshop with the blurriest image on top and used a layer mask to paint in the sharper portions which were the stamen and petals. Exposure was 1/500 sec at various apertures and ISO 1600.

Hi David,
Simply beautiful! Your soft and dreamy presentation of the anemone is well done. Your perspective captured its' beauty nicely against the clean background. Its nice to learn you're a Lensbaby user too. I enjoy watching Dirk Ercken's dreamy flower videos on YouTube. Lovely!   Posted: 07/04/2024 13:35:31

Thank you, Barbara. I go through phases of using Lensbaby lenses. I seem to have a love/hate relation with them. And, I, too, learned a lot from Dirk Erken's dreamy-flower videos. He makes it look so easy.   Posted: 07/04/2024 13:57:30

Hi David,
I love the dreamy effect of the lensbaby, and I really like how you presented this Anemone in such ethereal way. Well done!

Thank you, Maria! It is fun experimenting with Lensbaby lenses every so often. I still haven't learned what exactly I'm doing, but I keep trying.   Posted: 07/13/2024 11:44:28

Hi David,
What an amazing result. It is really beautiful art. I like the foggy, dreamy look but yet the flower is defined.
