About the Image(s)

For this month’s image, I chose a recent shot of a Magnolia. These flower are beautiful, but it wasn’t easy to find the right angle due to the distracting branches in the way.

To capture this image, I took advantage of a rainy day, which allowed me to capture some water droplets on the petals. Additionally, I applied three of my textures in screen mode blending. My goal was to transform the background into a lighter version and to isolate the

flowers from the background. I also applied a frame with lower opacity.

Image data:

1/1000 sec. F 5.6 ISO 1000 shot with a Sony camera with a 100-400 mm lens at 196 mm

This is a beautiful rendition of a magnolia. You have changed the feel by lightening the flower, as well as the background, yet keeping the center sharp. I like it. Beautifully done.   Posted: 09/14/2023 10:56:44

Hi Fran, Thanks for your comment, I am glad that you like it.
I find Magnolias compositions very difficult to success but I am happy with this one.

I like this a lot. Nice soft colors. Like how the center of the flower is sharp and the way it is facing.
To my eye you could crop off the bottom. With the petals cropped on both sides and the top I would crop the petals on the bottom. The space on the bottom is not needed in the composition. I would also darken the one petal on the top of the main flower, it's white and my eye wants to go there. It's the lightest area in the image. I would like to see what the others think of my crop.
Very nice work and image.   Posted: 09/14/2023 12:58:29

Hi DIck, I am happy that you like this image and I also like your crop and I agree about the lightest petal I can see now that this area is getting my eye too.   Posted: 09/15/2023 20:03:52

Hi Maria, You always do such interesting captures. The softness of the magnolias is lovely and your textures are amazing. The water adds such dimension. I think the crop is a good idea. Beautiful!   Posted: 09/21/2023 13:46:47
