Taken in studio using a flashlight as supplemental light. Texture and clarity were reduced to achieve a dreamy effect and saturation was added to the colors. This little fellow would not win any awards from the American Orchid Society but he proudly proclaims his individuality

Your description of this cattleya orchid is a little confusing. Not being a botanist, I'm not sure how to interpret it. Nonetheless, you captured it wonderfully with supplemental lighting although there seems to be a blur to the image just below the center. Not sure if that's natural or not. Also, the lower part of the flower in the shadow could use a bit of brightening. Posted: 08/02/2026 19:15:54
Orchids are so beautiful and can be so unusual. This is a nice example however the center (anther cap?) seems blown out a bit and the composition crop, especially the bottom, feels too tight to me. The flower doesn't seem to have enough breathing room.

I feel the orchid is sharp and like the background. The bottom of the orchid is not there no lighting in that area. There is no detail in the orchid. I would like to see a larger image. I have a feeling you are using your iPhone to get your shot then cropping to get your image. You end up with a very small image. Posted: 08/13/2026 23:02:38

I hadn't seen this orchid before, and I think it has beautiful colours and a lovely shape. I always find it difficult to get good close-ups with my phone. There is lovely lighting on the flower, and I like the top part of the image more than the bottom. Posted: 08/21/2026 19:16:06
