Pink Rose by Dick States

July 2026 - Pink Rose

About the Image(s)

Took this in my garage with my one light set-up as explained last month. This was a 12-image stack taken at f-8. When doing stacks, it is best to open up two stops from wide open. This is where a lens is the sharpest.
Taken at f-8, ISO 320 with a-1 stop exposure bias. I get this information from my histogram after I take my first image. I like the histogram to be as far to the right without blowing out and colors. Reds are first to be blown out. My lens was a 200mm macro lens with a polarizer using a tripod.
I like the composition showing the stem, leaf and one bud but dark enough not to distract from the rose.

To me, this image is all about the vibrant pink color of the rose. There is something elegant about the color and the various gradations of the color in the flower. The dark green leaves and stem provide a supporting role in defining the flower as a whole while the bud plays a role in defining what the flower once was; perhaps, like a mother-and-daughter relationship.   Posted: 07/01/2026 23:33:14

The composition of this photo is excellent, with the main bloom off-center and the stem placed diagonally in the frame, which leads the eye up from bottom left to the flower. The emerging bud is a nice touch for the storytelling, filling some negative space on the top left countered by the leaves on lower right. The soft lighting from above highlights the beautiful shade of pink in the flower with the right accent on the bud. My only suggestion would be to expand the border around the flower giving the photo more room to breathe.   Posted: 07/07/2026 18:57:03

Lovely composition with the included bud and outstretched leaves at the bottom. The pink color is quite vivid and the lighting keeps the shadows soft. The dark background really makes the rose pop. Images of fully bloomed flowers that include buds always remind me of "family".   Posted: 07/07/2026 19:50:34

I like the diagonal composition and the smooth, flowing angles of the stems and leaves. The colors are rich and stand out well against the black background. Great detail on the rose and affectionate bud.   Posted: 07/09/2026 20:18:37
