About the Image(s)
I found these shrub roses growing along the edge of the parking at a nearby park. My eye was attracted to the bright rose hips on the plants. I found this group with a nice composition and loved the texture of the leaves. Rose hips are rich in antioxidants especially vitamin C.
Shot at f5.6, 1/160 sec, ISO 320 with a -1-stop exposure bias. I was using my 200-macro lens with a polarizer on a tripod.

Beautiful! I've never seen such beautiful rose hips. The ones I see are typically a dull red. And you captured them so perfectly. You make it sound so simple to get such a shot by using a "200-macro lens with a polarizer on a tripod." But you're not telling us your real secret! :-)   Posted: 10/04/2025 12:16:16
These rose hips were on a shrub rose which usually have brighter red fruit and less insect problems than hybrid roses. I really have no secrets. I'm old school. I learned photography using slide film with no post processing. Must get it right in the camera. I always use a tripod most important piece of equipment I have. Next a polarizer does more than improve skies especially shinny surfaces on plant parts. I do almost no cropping in post. I always use a reflector as a secondary light on the shaded side. I do all my shots with a 12-megapixel camera and a great lens.
In this image I used some vignette to darken the edges.   Posted: 10/05/2025 21:23:18

To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen rose hips, or if I did I probably thought they were some kind of berry. As a lover of flowers and plants, I'm not necessarily well educated in horticulture, LOL.
I like this composition and the bright red against the green. You've controlled the reflected light well on what appears to be a shiny surface. I see you use a polarizer a lot. That is something I need to try more often as well. I don't always think about that unless I know I'll be near water.   Posted: 10/06/2025 18:50:00
