About the Image(s)

For this month’s image, I’ve chosen a photo of Aquilegia vulgaris ??” the Common Columbine ??” which I captured yesterday during an exploratory walk in search of wildflowers. They should be blooming around this time, but due to the cold weather, very few are in flower yet.

I was lucky to find this Columbine and managed to photograph it using focus stacking with ten shots, despite the wind being stronger than I’d hoped. It’s always a challenge to find calm days along the cliffs of Northern Spain!

Exif Data:

Shutter Speed: 1/1250 sec

Aperture: f/5.6

ISO: 1000

Camera: Canon R6 II

Lens: RF 100??“500mm at 223mm

In editing, I enhanced the colours, applied a crop, and added a subtle vignette.

You captured all the intricate details of these columbine flowers beautifully! Great job focus stacking them, especially on a windy day. If I were to be a little picky, I might remove the yellow blur in the background and maybe clone out the yellowish bud to the right of the lower flower.   Posted: 05/02/2025 18:33:02

Hi David,

Thank you for your comment and suggestions. I was tempted to remove the yellow spot in the background, but in the end, I decided to leave it because I liked the beautiful contrast with the purples. However, I do see your point, by removing the yellowish bud would result in a cleaner image.

Lovely image of the Columbine flowers. The vibrant purple color and sharp details make this a winner. Great job, Maria.   Posted: 05/07/2025 22:30:00
