About the Image(s)
I was shooting flowers in a local public garden and noticed this tiny Feverfew growing in the walkway. It had escaped from someone stepping on it. I felt I had to take its picture. I included some space around the plant to show the environment in which it was growing.
Feverfew is an herbaceous perennial plant with aromatic foliage and daisy-like flowers. It is a traditional medical plant. People have use it for migraines.
Taking with my 200-macro lens on a tripod. Taken at f-11, at 1/200 sec. ISO 400, with a -.3-exposure bias.

I like the simplicity of this image showing a single flower emerging from rocks and wood. You perfectly framed the flower with the broad rock behind it. The small tuft of leaves at the base of the flower also adds a sense of grounding to the composition. Very nicely composed and processed!   Posted: 03/05/2025 06:54:09

I like how the rock acts as a background for the daisy. And I like the flower blooming among the rocks. I do find the rocks in the background to be a little distracting.   Posted: 03/05/2025 08:46:47
Thanks, Amy, for your comments. My intent here was to show how this tiny flower is isolated all by itself in not the best location, the walkway. I wanted to show its location and the landscape around it. I desired the background to be out of focus so to draw the eye to the tiny flower. This tells a bit of a story. This image was part of a Power Point program I put together for the Master Gardeners in our area. The program was images from their garden.   Posted: 03/05/2025 20:55:00
Hi Dick,
I love this tiny flower growing in such a harsh environment-it's a beautiful example of how nature always finds a way to be resilient, even in the most unfavorable conditions.
While I appreciate the inclusion of the surrounding environment, I find the upper part of the image slightly distracting from the flower. I would suggest creating another version with a square crop to remove some of the upper area or darkening that section to make it less prominent.

I like your idea to darken the upper area.   Posted: 03/08/2025 07:25:32
Lovely! Your selective focus of the flower worked well. Good DOF. I like the lighting on the daisy with its' shadow. The inclusion of the background adds to a solitary, peaceful mood. Nicely composed. I might crop a bit off the top of the frame as Maria has suggested. Nicely done, Dick.   Posted: 03/08/2025 10:53:48
I like your idea to crop the top, but I was trying to convey the idea of one tiny flower in a vast area.   Posted: 03/26/2025 19:18:41
